NASCAR Could Benefit From A "Strong U.S. Influence In Development"

by Matthew Kato on Jan 21, 2015 at 03:00 AM

Former NASCAR developer Eutechnyx has officially confirmed the transfer of rights to new holder DMi Games, and as proud of what it did for the series, even U.K.-based Eutechnyx admits that bringing development back to the U.S. could be good for the brand.

"NASCAR is all-American and benefits from a strong U.S. influence in development, marketing, and production," said Darren Jobling, Eutechnyx CEO. "The proposal made by DMi, to be run out of Charlotte, NC best suited Eutechnyx and NASCAR's ambitions for the future of the franchise..."

Blake Davidson, NASCAR vice president, licensing and consumer products, agreed. "Establishing [DMi] in Charlotte, a central location for the NASCAR industry, will only strengthen this great partnership."

According to Jobling, DMi wasn't the only offer on the table. "After a lot of hard work over the last four years," he said, "the NASCAR franchise is back where it belongs – a major player in the racing game genre. It's natural that a successful product series begins to attract attention from other publishers, and we've been receiving interest for quite some time."

Our Take
We don't doubt Eutechnyx's love of NASCAR, and believe they did the best of their abilities in the games they developed, but being Stateside – if only from a communication and access to NASCAR aspect – should help new rights holder DMi. Regardless, the company still has a long, hard road ahead of it to bring video game stock car racing back to where many fans thought it once was in the Papyrus PC days.
