nintendo direct

Yesterday, rumors of a New 3DS release date emerged thanks to images of a promotional poster. During this morning’s Nintendo Direct, the company confirmed that date.

The posters that appeared only showed the New 3DS XL, leading some to wonder if that meant Nintendo wouldn’t be releasing the smaller version here. At least for now, Nintendo isn't releasing the tinier model with the changeable face plates here.

Nintendo will be releasing the new handheld on February 13 for $199.99. It features near-field communication for Amiibos (with Super Smash Bros. as the first supported title), faster processing, eye-tracking for better 3D, and an analog C-Stick. The New 3DS also uses a micro SD card instead of the full-sized SD cards of the 3DS and 3DS XL.

The system will be available in New Red and New Black colors. It will not include an AC adapter, which is a first for Nintendo in North America. The company has approach new hardware similarly in other territories, though.
