Like fashion, film, and music, gaming is susceptible to fads. One developer’s innovation quickly becomes aped, mimicked, and tweaked by many others in hopes of riding the wave of popularity.

A couple of years ago, the MOBA scene exploded with dozens of entries. Hearthstone’s success last year is already starting to see replication. Years earlier, we had the World War II shooter boom, the flood of Horde mode copycats, and even a rush to put online multiplayer in every game possible.

Some of these work out for the best. Others fade away after consumers cool. Will 4v1 asymmetric play, already starting to gain steam even before Evolve’s release (see this morning's news about a Friday the 13th game), stick around or slip into the shadows?

Which of these fads do you want to see continue and which should gracefully bow out. Let us know in the comments.
