Star Fox (Unsurprisingly) Due For E3 2015 Appearance

by Mike Futter on Jan 06, 2015 at 10:03 AM

Nintendo announced in December that The Legend of Zelda for Wii U and Star Fox are both on track for 2015 releases. With Star Fox scheduled to release first, we were comfortably expecting to see more of it no later than E3.

Our suspicions were largely reinforced thanks to recent episode of Smosh Games’ Button Bash. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto stopped by to play some Mario Kart and talk about the publisher’s near-term plans. The conversation turned to Star Fox, with good news about hands-on time offered.

“I think we’ll have a version of it ready at E3 that everyone can play,” Miyamoto says. “One of the questions we often get is how is the gamepad being used in a particular game. Star Fox is a game where having two screens is really important, and it works really well.”

We first learned that the game was in development at E3 2014. There, Nintendo had a hands-off demo manned by Miyamoto. You can read our impressions of the title from the presentation for more information on what to expect from Fox McCloud’s Wii U debut.

Our Take
While we expected Star Fox to make an appearance at E3, Nintendo has a way of surprising us. I have the fondest of memories of going to K-Mart as a kid, picking up the original Star Fox, and falling off my chair dodging asteroids, because it was my first home experience with the 3D graphics. To suggest that I am excited for a new entry in the series is an understatement.
