Bethesda Vice President Pete Hines Joins Board Of Charity Organization Take This

by Mike Futter on Jan 06, 2015 at 08:43 AM

Take This, a charity focused on mental health education and disease prevention, has announced a new member of its Board of Trustees. Pete Hines, vice president of marketing and public relations and publisher Bethesda, has been elected to the organization’s governing body.

"It's an honor and a privilege to be asked to join the board of Take This," Hines says. "Their work on mental health awareness and education is something that means a lot to me personally, and anything I can do to help them reach and help a wider audience in the gaming community and beyond is time well spent."

The charity, helmed by former Polygon features editor Russ Pitts, has partnered with Penny Arcade Expo and Child’s Play to offer quiet rooms at PAX conventions. These “AFK rooms” offer mental wellness support from trained volunteers and professional providers.

The organization is named after a well-known line of dialogue from early on in the original The Legend of Zelda game on NES. The group has received its federal 501(c)(3) nonprofit designation.

For more on Take This, you can visit the group’s website. If you’re attending PAX South, Take This will have an “AFK Room” at the show and will be presenting a panel on dealing with toxic online interactions.

Our Take
I’m an admirer of Take This and the group’s work. I’ve had the opportunity to work with Pete Hines over the years, and this is a great get for the charity. Hines brings a great deal of knowledge and expertise to bear, which will help further this organization’s important work.
