by Mike Futter on Jan 05, 2015 at 08:01 AM

Microsoft and Dish have announced that the newly announced Sling TV service will be coming to Xbox One soon. The product, which will provide a variety of over-the-internet television programming from Disney, CNN, ESPN, TNT, and others, was announced today at CES.

The service will be offered for $20 per month. Xbox Live members will receive a free one-month trial at launch.

Live and on-demand programming will be included. Sling TV will also be available on Amazon Fire TV, Google Nexus Player, LG Smart TVs, Roku boxes, mobile platforms (iOS, Android), PC, and Mac.

Our Take
With HBO Go becoming available without a subscription and Dish announcing Sling TV, cord-cutters are slowly becoming able to cobble together a full slate of programming. Unfortunately, it still is patchwork.

An all-in-one programming solution is unlikely to emerge, because that’s just what people ran away from with cable. As someone who is still content with doing things “the old way,” I’m not sure of the appeal. For those that have abandoned traditional television, does is this something you're interested in?
