January's Games With Gold Prepares Players For The Witcher 3

by Jeff Marchiafava on Dec 22, 2014 at 07:43 AM

Microsoft has announced next month's Games With Gold offerings and they line up nicely with CD Projekt Red's upcoming RPG.

Starting on January 1 and running throughout the month, Xbox One owners can download Swery's campy adventure game, D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die (watch our Test Chamber for more info). On the Xbox 360, players can pick up MX vs. ATV Alive from January 1-15, and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings from January 16-31. The final offering should give players plenty of time to prepare for The Witcher 3, which is slated for a May 19 release.

In the meantime, be sure to pick up the rest of December's offerings.

Our Take
While D4 and MX vs. ATV Alive received middling scores, you can't complain about a free copy of The Witcher 2 – especially with the highly anticipated third installment on the horizon. Catching players up on a series in time for a sequel is a great way for publishers to participate in Microsoft and Sony's free game programs; I hope more companies follow this approach in the future.
