Marvel Vs. Capcom Origins Getting Pulled From Digital Stores

by Jeff Cork on Dec 19, 2014 at 03:52 AM

Capcom has announced that they're pulling Marvel vs. Capcom Origins off PSN and the Xbox Live Marketplace over the next few days. There's still time to download it, however, in case you're interested in checking out the compilation of old-school fighting games.

According to a blog post from Capcom's resident fighting-game expert, Peter "Combofiend" Rosas, the PlayStation 3 version of the game will be removed from the PlayStation Store on December 23. Xbox 360 users have another week until it's pulled on December 31.

Marvel vs. Capcom Origins features enhanced and traditional versions of Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, and it was released on PSN and XBLA in September 2012. They're currently available for $14.99 on both platforms.

Our Take
Marvel vs. Capcom Origins is likely a casualty of licensing, similar to how Activision's licenses for games including Deadpool and a variety of Spider-Man and X-Men titles expired earlier this year. Deals change and terms have shelf lives, but that doesn't make it any less annoying for consumers when games disappear – especially when it isn't possible to track down a physical version of the game after the fact.
