Assassin’s Creed Unity Patch 4 Requiring Full 40 GB Game Re-Download On Xbox One

by Mike Futter on Dec 17, 2014 at 02:24 AM

Ubisoft has confirmed a problem with the latest Assassin’s Creed Unity patch. Xbox One players that installed Patch 3 are being forced to re-download the full 40 GB game.

The update, which rolled out on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 yesterday was already a hefty 6.7 GB. “Unfortunately, an issue with the patch downloading process is replacing the entire game instead of just the parts affected by the patch,” Ubisoft says. “This is obviously not the expected behavior, and we apologize that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download.”

The publisher says it is working with Microsoft on a fix for the problem. “But as of now we have no ETA on when this will be resolved,” the company says.

For those that own the disc version, you can uninstall the game, reinstall from the disc, and the correct patch size will then download. For more on Patch 4 and what it fixes, visit our previous coverage.

Our Take
For those with slow and capped data that have been along for the ride, hoping that each patch would fix this game’s many problems, this is going to hit you hard. There is almost nothing left to say about how this chain of mistakes has damaged the Assassin’s Creed brand. I look forward to Ubisoft explaining this on the next earnings call.
