Red Faction: Guerrilla Ditches Games For Windows Live, Now On Steam With Improvements

by Mike Futter on Dec 03, 2014 at 09:50 AM

The Games for Windows Live exodus continues, as another title jumps ship for Steam. Red Faction: Guerrilla, published by THQ and now under new management at Nordic Games, has arrived on Valve’s platform with enhancements.

In addition to minor (but fun) updates like achievements and Steam Trading Cards, the new version features optional DirectX11 support, new maps and an additional game mode, and save game migration from Games for Windows Live. A number of minor improvements, including camera changes, and the removal of multiplayer aim assist bring the game up to speed.

Red Faction: Guerrilla on sale right now for $2.99 on Steam (regularly $19.99). If you happened to miss it last month as part of Xbox Live Games with Gold (or just want a prettier version), now’s the time. For more, check out our extremely positive review of the title from its 2009 release.

Our Take
Kudos to Nordic Games for not just making the effort to port this five year old game, but to update it in the process. Even if the effort doesn’t net much of a profit, it’s an act of good faith by of a publisher suddenly holding the keys to some powerful franchises.
