Worms Battlegrounds Now Free On Xbox One, Gets Alien-Infused DLC

by Jeff Cork on Dec 02, 2014 at 03:07 AM

Worms Battlegrounds is now available on the Xbox One, and if you're a Gold member you can check it out this month at no charge. Developer Team17 has also released DLC for the game, which puts a flying-saucer spin on the carnage.

The Alien Invasion DLC includes a healthy amount of additional content, including 10 deathmatch missions; hats, gravestones, and speechbanks; five new weapons; and a wave-based Bodycount mode with three new maps. It's available for $4.99, and Gold members get an extra 20 percent knocked off.

The base game features 35 single-player missions, 65 weapons and items, more than 200 customization items, and support for up to four players either locally or online. It's normally priced at $24.99, so be sure to grab it before the deal expires on December 31.

Our Take
This could end up being a win-win for both Team17 and players. If people play the game after getting it free and enjoy it, it's likely that they'll pony up the cash for DLC. Since the game has such a strong multiplayer component, friends who didn't end up getting the game during the promotion could end up buying it at full price so they can keep playing. I'm already looking forward to checking it out when I get home, as though I don't have enough stuff on my backlog already.
