DayZ Will Not Be Finished Until 2016

by Mike Futter on Nov 26, 2014 at 05:38 AM

Bohemia Interactive has notified Early Access buyers that DayZ, its zombies survival game, will not be finished until the first half of 2016. The developer shared with us its plans for 2015 and beyond today, including final price points for when the game is released.

The standalone version of DayZ entered Steam Early Access almost one year ago. The price is slated to gradually increase, though it will be reduced from the new norm of $34.99 to its previous cost of $29.99.

As the game completes alpha testing in the final quarter of 2015, that price will be raised to $43.99. Final release price will be $49.99.

Between now and then, Bohemia Interactive has a quarterly roadmap that includes vehicles, new zombie AI, diseases, and basic stealth in Q1 2015. In the second quarter, vehicle repair and modification will be introduced along with player statistics, a new user interface, and dynamic events.

In the second half of next year, traps, barricades, wildlife predators and companions, aerial transportation, construction, and Steam community integration will be completed. More details on the roadmap will be made available in the coming weeks.

DayZ was announced for PlayStation 4 at Gamescom. There is no information at this time about how PC development impacts rollout on consoles. DayZ's creator, Dean Hall, announced his intentions to leave the project earlier this year.

Our Take
If you’ve purchased the Early Access version of the game, you have a long way to go to see your investment realized. I suspect that the PlayStation 4 version will be delayed until at least this long, unless Sony decides to introduce its own Early Access program to consoles. I sincerely hope that is note the path living room hardware will go down.
