They Actually Did 'The Mario' On Dancing With The Stars

by Jason Dafnis on Nov 25, 2014 at 05:56 AM

On last night’s episode of Dancing with the Stars, professional dancer Mark Ballas and Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson danced a freestyle inspired by none other than the plumber brothers. The result was a lot less cringe-worthy than you might expect.

Ballas jumped in Mario’s shoes while Robertson took on the role of Princess Peach. Part-way through the video, they’re joined by Luigi and Toad. Their routine, which you can watch below, was accompanied by music and sound effects from the original Super Mario Bros., both of which were surprisingly well-integrated into the routine. In fact, it borders on tasteful. (Maybe Hollywood should take a cue or two from the Stars.)

Fun fact: the arrangement of classic Mario tunes you hear in the video was put together by longtime Nintendo composer Koji Kondo. You can download the official audio track here (even if it is missing some of the embellishments in the video above).

Hooked on the brothers (and the others)? Maybe you'll enjoy this Assassin's Creed musical, which also avoided butchering its source material while still providing an entertaining bit.
