News

Capcom is working on a new update for Ultra Street Fighter IV, which will add new training challenges, additional online options, and changes to the game's balance. Also, it includes support for the upcoming Wild costumes. For the uninitiated, these are more than mere palette swaps; your favorite characters are going full-on furry.

Version 1.04 is arriving after the Capcom Cup, which takes place in San Francisco on December 13. According to Capcom, here are the high-level tweaks:

  • Players will be able to toggle the edition select on and off in custom online matches.
  • Yun, Yang, Oni, Evil Ryu, Hugo, Elena, Decapre, Poison, and Rolento are getting new trials, and some of the existing trials for the other characters are now able to be completed. (Previous balance tweaks had the unintended consequence of rendering some impossible.)
  • Omega Mode puts a new spin on the characters, with an emphasis on friendly competition and fun. These newly tweaked versions are only available in unranked matches.
  • The game's balance is getting addressed, and Capcom says characters like DeeJay will be adjusted to make them more effective in high-level play. Additionally, Vega and Yun bugs are being fixed.

Those are all welcome changes, but the biggest draw for some may come with the addition of those Wild costumes. They're not free, but as you can see in the gallery below, their sheer insanity may justify a purchase.

Our Take
I haven't picked up Ultra Street Fighter IV, but these costumes may have convinced me. I'm not usually the kind of person who spends money on cosmetic add-ons, but there's just something about seeing E. Honda dressed up like a turtle. Not something good, necessarily, but something that I'm oddly compelled to see more of.
