Itagaki Offers Devil's Third Development Update, On Track For 2015 Release On Wii U

by Kyle Hilliard on Nov 22, 2014 at 07:47 AM

Dead or Alive creator and Ninja Gaiden director Tomonobu Itagaki recently shared some updates on the development of the Wii U exclusive Devil's Third.

On Itagaki's Facebook page, he shared a bullet-point list of information about Devil's Third's development. The game, originally meant to release this year, is now on track for release next year. Developer Valhalla Game Studios finished editing the game's final cutscene the other day.

Itagaki said the scope of the single-player is much larger than that of Ninja Gaiden. He also said he looked closely at games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Gears of War, and Halo (which he specifically calls out as a favorite), to influence the game's mechanics and direction. There are also some hyperbolic statements like, "Devil’s Third demolishes the standard of past console games in online [multiplayer]," which we won't know more about until the game releases.

Our Take
Devil's Third is a strange game and I'm curious to see the final product. A Japanese game from a director known for swords and hand-to-hand combat, heavily inspired by western shooters, coming exclusively to Wii U? It has the potential to be something interesting, and if trailers are any indication, something really bizarre.
