This Week In Mobile – Freddy's, Fables, And Fortresses

by Jason Dafnis on Nov 21, 2014 at 10:20 AM

It's that time again (just like it is every Friday): time for This Week In Mobile, where we pick out some mobile games we think you should check out this week. Without further ado:

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
Developer: Scott Cawthorne
Platform: iOS
Price: $2.99

Shouldn’t this be called “Ten Nights at Freddy’s”? Or even, like, “A Fortnight at Freddy’s” to keep the alliteration? Lazy naming conventions aside, the sequel to the original hit creepware promises to prey on both your repressed fear of stuffed toys that are bigger than you and your poor resource management skills in one fell swoop. (Seriously, though – “A Fortnight at Freddy’s” is pure gold.)

The Wolf Among Us – Episode 1
Developer: Telltale Games
Platform: iOS
Price: Free

The Wolf Among Us has been on iOS for some time (and it’s been on consoles for even longer), but if you haven’t gotten the chance to play it yet, your stars have aligned: the first episode of Telltale’s Fables-based adventure game is free through the App Store as of today. If you're stuck on it after that, like I was, the other four episodes are also available. Now that you know that, you have no excuse to even read the rest of these entries. Go on. Shoo.

Election Manager 2016
Developer: Lensflare Games
Platform: iOS
Price: $3.99

The fate of the lower 48 (and the other two – don’t hate) is at the tip of your thumbs in Election Manager 2016. What if Obama and Romney hadn’t been the only candidates in 2012? What if one had had a lot more campaign money? What if more than 57% of eligible voters had gotten off their butts and done it? Election Manager lets you plot out abstract simulations like those to keep the POTUS afloat(us).

Quetzalcoatl
Developer: 1 Button SARL
Platform: iOS
Price: $1.99

I really like describing puzzle games in terms of other puzzle games, so Quetzalcoatl is Flow Free meets Snake. Each line has a tail that must touch a part of the grid that corresponds to its color. Things get a little more cramped when more lines are squished onto the grid, resulting in sliding puzzle-levels of frustration tempered with the tantalizing suspicion that you’re just one move away from solving it.

Kingdom Rush Origins
Developer: Ironhide
Platform: iOS, Android
Price: $2.99 (Google Play), $6.49 (App Store)

Ironhide returns to its flagship tower defense series with Origins, a prequel to the original (though story means squat-all in TD games). Gems of power, kingdoms threatened, et cetera, et cetera; if you play tower defense games, you’ll like this one because it features new towers and environments along with new heroes and spells to defend them. You probably know what you’re getting into, which isn’t really a bad thing.
