According to the Hollywood Reporter, Mark Boal has been attached to the upcoming Uncharted film adaptation. The Oscar-winner holds in his hands some of the hopes and dreams of video game fans everywhere.

Boal, who is best known for his work on The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, could extend his skill in gritty script-writing to Nathan Drake’s world – but video game adaptations are notoriously hard to perfect. What’s more, Boal won’t be the original writer of the script: he’s reportedly giving a “polish” to the existing script by David Guggenheim (Stolen, Weaponized, Safe House).

The changing of hands might give Boal the opportunity to clean up or it could restrict how much creative leeway he has over it. As in the case of nearly every video game film, only time will tell. (That was this close to being a Prince of Persia joke.)

The Uncharted film will be directed by Seth Gordon and is on track to film in 2015 and release in June 2016.
