Super Smash Bros. 3DS Latest To Join Nintendo Million Seller Club
Nintendo has plenty to celebrate. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS has not only sold well, but also is also its tenth Nintendo DS game to reach 1 million units in sales.
Super Smash Bros' for 3DS is on fire! Today's NPD report had it coming in second for the best-selling games of October, right behind NBA 2K15. Nintendo's pride and joy has already sold 1.2 million combined physical and digital units in the U.S. This is the best-selling handheld title this year for Nintendo, but it will hit new competition on November 21 with Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire launching.
According to Nintendo, this is also a strong year for the Wii U, a system that has struggled. Wii U hardware and software has increased by 47 percent and 84 percent since 2013.
Here is a list of games that have reached the 1 million mark, in addition to Super Smash Bros. for 3DS:
Mario Kart 7 - 3.62 million
Super Mario 3D Land - 3.34 million
New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 2.33 million
Pokémon X - 2.11 million
Pokémon Y - 2.03 million
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - 1.41 million
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon - 1.36 million
Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 1.42 million
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS - 1.20 million
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - 1.06 million
This can only be good news for the Wii U version of Smash Bros. releasing November 21. Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire also launch on the same day, which should also be successful for the big N. I'd love to see the Wii U get more love, as Nintendo has released some solid games for it and I'd love to see more developers be encouraged to make games for the system.
