Telltale's Game Of Thrones Spans Season Four Of The Television Show

by Mike Futter on Nov 11, 2014 at 04:25 AM

Telltale has announced the first concrete (or is it iron?) details for its Game of Thrones series. The series will, as suspected, follow House Forrester as it fights for its survival.

The six-episode series will start near the end of season three of HBO's Game of Thrones television show. The events will carry through to right before the start of season five.

While the Forresters have not yet appeared on the show, they are part of the Westeros lore crafted by author George R.R. Martin. Players will take control of five members of the House, though not all are related by blood. Decisions made by one will impact the rest of the house and, therefore, the situations in which the other four find themselves.

The first episode, Iron from Ice, is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, iOS, and PC. Other platforms are planned, but not yet announced.

Our Take
This is certainly Telltale's most ambitious project for a number of reasons. HBO's show is ongoing, and there is the potential challenge of timing game episodes against those for the television show. Additionally, the complexity of decisions across multiple protagonists in combination with carrying choices from one episode to the next introduces greater potential for improper importing. Still, this is an exciting project and one I'm interested to see play out.
