[Update] Fix For PlayStation 4 Rest Mode Bug Rolling Out Now

by Mike Futter on Nov 04, 2014 at 11:52 PM

Update: The update is rolling out right now. If your console was turned off, it will automatically start downloading the 217.2 MB patch immediately.

Original Story:

Sony is preparing to release a fix for a bug caused by Update 2.0. Many users have reported (and we have experienced along with them) the glitch that prevents the console from waking from Rest Mode.

Currently, users have two choices when experiencing the issue. They can shut the console down entirely or, if the hardware won’t wake, pull the power cord out and go through a system check.

The North American PlayStation Twitter account suggests the patch is coming “soon” in the form of Update 2.0.1. PlayStation Europe pins the release more specifically, suggesting it will arrive today. We’ll update as we learn more.

Our Take
Sony had a rough October in terms of community relations, between the Update 2.0 problems and the poor release of Driveclub. This fix puts them on a better course for November. I’ve accidentally put my system in Rest Mode out of habit a few times, with each resulting in some foul language and pulling the power cord to get my system up and running.
