Start Building Your Thedas In The Dragon Age Keep Open Beta

by Mike Futter on Oct 29, 2014 at 07:54 AM

Dragon Age: Inquisition is still a few weeks away, but you can start getting ready now. BioWare has announced that Dragon Age Keep is now in open beta.

Dragon Age Keep is how you’ll import the decisions you made into the new game. It will also let you make entirely new choices, setting up Inquisition exactly how you wanted things to turn out (even if that’s not what happened in your play through).

You’ll need an Origin account in order to access the Keep. Note that since this is a beta, you might encounter some problems (we hit a few snags).

You’ll start by syncing your data (if you have any) from Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. This includes equipment you might have earned from pre-order or special editions and achievements. Then, you’ll select which of your heroes you want to include from both games.

Once that’s complete, sit back. You’ll be treated to a tale of your exploits narrated by Varric the dwarf.

You’ll have the option to change choices during the video. If there’s something you wish you had done differently, now’s your chance to fix the past.

Head on over to the Dragon Age Keep to start laying the groundwork for Dragon Age: Inquisition. For more, read up in our Gamescom preview and cover story from the September 2013 issue. Dragon Age: Inquisition will be out on November 18 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Our Take
This is a cleverly conceived and well-produced mechanism for importing your Dragon Age history into the new game. It could have more easily been a checklist of decisions, but BioWare has created something that respects fans’ time and delivers a recap while serving a practical purpose.
