Are You Tough Enough For Dark Souls II In First-Person?

by Mike Futter on Oct 23, 2014 at 07:47 AM

From Software has made its name over the past few years delivering grueling (but fair) action titles. Its latest offering, Dark Souls II (our review) has garnered a large fan base that delights in the game’s challenge. Things are about to get a bit more difficult, though.

YouTube user “Benzoin-Gum” has shared footage of his first-person mod, as well as a link so players can install it themselves. As you might expect, this will change the way you have to approach every enemy you encounter.

Used to looking for tells and signals so you know when to roll? Now you’ll need to make sure you’re actually facing enemies. Use your foe’s health meter to know when you can press the attack and finish them? You’ll need to maneuver a bit so you can see it.

There is a warning attached to this. The mod uses a cheat engine to power it. There is a chance you will get detected and banned if you go online with it enabled. Also, bows don’t seem to function properly yet and you’ll run into some clipping issues.

Dark Souls II was never meant to be played from a first person perspective, but we have to wonder if someone at From Software will take notice. You can download the mod here.

Our Take
We need to reiterate that you should NOT go online with this mod. Even though it isn’t technically a “cheat,” it is powered by something that may be detected as such. Right now, this is just a novelty given its drawbacks, but it would be interesting to see how the most devout Souls fans handle the new challenge.
