Sony has issued a statement on its performance for the month of September in advance of this evening’s NPD report. The publisher says that Activision’s Destiny broke PlayStation Store sales records for first day, first week, and pre-orders.

PlayStation 4 also won the month in the United States. The publisher says that it sold three times as many consoles, including bundles, over August 2014.

Sony says that revenue for the PlayStation Store is up 90 percent over September 2013. On the retail side, the Destiny PlayStation 4 bundle gave Sony its biggest month in 2014.

Our Take
We’re still waiting on the full NPD report and possible statements from Microsoft and Nintendo. We need that to understand the full picture for the month in the United States, including growth (or reduction) of hardware and software across the market.
