Anita Sarkeesian Cancels Utah State Presentation Following Threats Of Mass Shooting

by Mike Futter on Oct 15, 2014 at 12:01 PM

Feminist Frequency founder and pop culture critic Anita Sarkeesian was scheduled to speak last night at Utah State University. The presentation was canceled shortly before the event in the wake of a shooting threat.

Sarkeesian says she canceled the talk not because of the threats, but because the university would not take certain security precautions. According to the Standard-Examiner, which reported on the incident yesterday, the email threat warned of “the deadliest school shooting in American history.”

“To be clear: I didn't cancel my USU talk because of terrorist threats,” she said in a statement on Twitter. “I canceled because I didn’t feel the security measures were adequate.”

According to a Utah State spokesperson, the school could not legally prevent students from bringing in concealed weapons.
