Dragon Quest II Now Available For iOS And Android Devices

by Mike Futter on Oct 09, 2014 at 04:13 AM

As promised, Square Enix is rolling out another Dragon Quest title for mobile devices. The latest entry to hit touchscreen devices is Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line.

The second in the series was originally released in 1987 in Japan, making its way to North America in 1990 as Dragon Warrior II. In an evolution from the original, this entry puts players in control of a party instead of a lone hero.

You can download it today for $4.99 for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Android devices. For more on Dragon Quest’s journey to mobile, check out our coverage from PAX. Additionally, associated editor Kimberley Wallace examined the future of the franchise here in North America.

Our Take
While the Dragon Quest games certainly hold nostalgia for me, I can’t imagine investing the kind of time required on a touch device. There are few games on these platforms that draw and hold my attention. For RPGs, I’d rather play on my 3DS or Vita.
