Tetris Is Being Turned Into A Sci-Fi Movie, And We Assume Z-Tetrominos Are The Villains

by Mike Futter on Sep 30, 2014 at 05:42 AM

Game to movie adaptations aren’t often the most graceful pieces of cinema. Jokes are wedged into the script and references to the source material are awkwardly shoehorned into action sequences. This time, the entire “plot” is about wedging and shoehorning.

Tetris is being turned into a science fiction movie.

Read that again. One more time. Got it? Ok.

Threshold Entertainment (Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation) is handling the production, and boasts that it is the first company to make a successful movie out of a video game. The company will be working in conjunction with The Tetris Company and managing director Henk Rogers.

No specific plot details have been revealed, but we assume that a long block is the savior we are we are waiting for. For more on Tetris, check out a video conversation between creator Alexey Pajitnov and Threes creator Asher Vollmer from E3. You can also watch Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak profess his love of the game.
