InkQuest – Lionhead Studio’s Unpublished Audio Book Adventure

by Ben Reeves on Sep 23, 2014 at 12:35 PM

Nearly every developer experiments with game prototypes and demos, but we rarely get a chance to get an in-depth look at the projects that don't make it all the way to release. Thankfully, Lionhead is giving us an expanded look at an unpublished game called InkQuest that came out of one of its game jams from 2013.

Last year, a group of Lionhead developers put together a demo for a game that the team describes as “part magical map, part audio book, part adventure game.” The demo was impressive enough that the studio put a little more resources into developing the project under an initiative called Incubated. Unfortunately, the game was eventually canceled, but you can get a peak at the title through the trailer below. Lionhead also says that it will start releasing more details about other unreleased Incubated games as times goes on; who know, if fan fervor peaks for one of them, maybe the concept will get resurrected.

Our Take
I’m not sure how the gameplay would have worked, but I love the pop-up book style environments. I’m not that impressive with Lionhead’s upcoming Fable Legends, but I love the companies earlier work, and I’d love to see them catch that creative spark once again.
