[Update] Europe And North America Getting Special Edition Super Smash Bros. 3DS

by Kyle Hilliard on Sep 14, 2014 at 06:36 AM

Update: The special edition Super Smash Bros. 3DS has been confirmed for North America.

Confirmed during the recent GameStop Expo (Disclaimer: GameStop is Game Informer’s parent company), the system will be $199 and releases September 19. It will not include a copy of Super Smash Bros., which releases on October 3.

Ads for the new system are also appearing on the Wii U's eShop, which you can see above.

Original story:

A special Super Smash Bros. 3DS XL bundle is coming to Europe, and it has nearly everyone on it.

You've got Link, Mario, Pikachu, Kid Icarus, Samus, the Animal Crossing villager, Marth, Little Mac, Kirby, Rosalina, and Yoshi all looking angry and off to the right.

Unfortunately, it has not been confirmed for a North American release, although a NeoGAF user did spot the handheld on a WalMart flyer. That's still strictly rumor though, as Nintendo has made no confirmation.

Super Smash Bros. launches for 3DS on October 3.

Our Take
I always like seeing these special edition handhelds, but I never want to buy one because I don't like to a commit to a single character or franchise on a handheld that I play all my games on. This is one I might have considered grabbing (if it were to make its way to North America), but with the new 3DS on the way, I will definitely hold off.
