by Matthew Kato on Sep 12, 2014 at 10:02 AM

Ken Rolston, the lead designer for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has joined developer Hinterland as a designer-in-residence for survival adventure title The Long Dark.

Raphael van Lierop, founder and creative director at Hinterland says he first met Rolston in 2011, and from then on wanted to work with him.

"The moment I saw Raphael's early concepts for The Long Dark, I was fascinated," says Rolston. "Humbled. And desperately wanted to be involved. And as the concept flowered, I only became more desperate."

Rolston will add his open-world experience in helping with designing the game, which drops players in an unforgiving Canadian wilderness and tasking that they learn how to survive.

Back in 2012, Rolston was the director of design at Turbine after having worked on Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
