Bungie Gives Us A Birds-Eye View Of Destiny With Planet View

by Ben Reeves on Sep 02, 2014 at 08:21 AM

Google Maps has given us a pretty great view of our planet's surface. Now, using some of those same technologies, Bungie is giving us a big-picture look at it’s new shooter with Destiny Planet View.

We’ve already had a few opportunities to dive into Destiny’s world, but Destiny Planet View lets fans explore a piece of the game’s world, including nearby planets and moons using. This is your first chance to get a look at some of Destiny's in-game locations on Mars, Venus and the Moon. Players will also be able to discover game lore, tips, and a few hidden real-world “incentives.” Check out the Destiny Planet View trailer below, which marks the first time Google technologies have been used to map an game world.

Before the game releases on September 9 for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360, check out or month-worth of game coverage.

Our Take
This is a slick way to show off a game before it actually releases to the public, and a smart use of existing technology; hopefully we'll see more uses of Google's tech like this soon.
