Don’t Starve Comes To Vita Free For PS4 Version Owners

by Mike Futter on Aug 25, 2014 at 07:41 AM

Klei Entertainment has announced a Vita version of Don’t Starve that should please quite a few people. The Giant Edition of the game will arrive in just over a week, will include the Reign of Giants expansion, and will be absolutely free for anyone that owns the PlayStation 4 version.

For those keeping track, Don’t Starve was a PlayStation Plus offering in early 2014. If you took advantage of that offer, all you need to do is download the game on September 2.

Because of some coding changes, the title isn’t cross-play with the home version. That means you won’t be able to carry over your character unlocks, unfortunately.

For those buying in for the first time, expect to pay $14.99. For those that are interested in the Reign of Giants expansion on PlayStation 4, that will run you $4.99. For more on Don’t Starve, check out our review.

Our Take
Cross-buy is becoming more common, but it’s not a guarantee when a portable version releases later. This is a generous move by Klei, especially since so many people got the game earlier in the year as part of PlayStation Plus. I’m looking forward to dying horribly on the go.
