News

Gamescom is now behind us, with the announcements, previews, and that first schnitzel fading into memory. One thing we won’t quickly forget is just how packed the Kölnmesse was once again.

The Gamescom organizers announced that attendance was down ever so slightly this year. 335,000 individuals (down from 340,000 last year) from 88 countries attended during the show’s four public days.

Evolve came away with five awards at the show, repeating its success from E3. Turtle Rock’s “4v1” online multiplayer shooter won another Best in Show award.

Our Take
Gamescom is an enormous show that is garnering more attention from publishers each year. After last year’s huge platform showing from Microsoft and Sony, we wondered if this year might be a bit more muted. If you watched the press briefings, you know that there was a ton to keep us busy.

Gamescom is like no other show I’ve ever covered. It’s awe-inspiring to see the masses of fans, but if you’ve got a meeting to get to, it’s best to admire from a distance.
