Visual Concepts Job Posting Could Signal The Return Of MLB 2K

by Matthew Kato on Jul 31, 2014 at 04:33 AM

MLB 2K developer Visual Concepts isn't making baseball games currently, meaning that MLB 2K13 (out last year) was the last title from the franchise. However, a recent job posting includes a reference to America's pastime.

The job listing for a new-gen UI artist includes a stipulation that candidates have an "interest in sports including baseball."

Before MLB 2K13 came out, publisher 2K did not renew its license with Major League Baseball due to lack of profitability, but both sides struck a deal to get MLB 2K13 out the door.

Our Take
Visual Concepts didn't do well with the third-party license when it had it, and even if this job posting points to them getting back in the game, questions remain regarding VC's ability to deliver a good product. Furthermore, the licensing deal between 2K and the league would have to change, otherwise both parties would find themselves right back where they started.
