[Update] Little Big Planet 3 Closed Beta Announced, Codes Given To Select Few

by Harry Mackin on Jul 25, 2014 at 08:49 AM

Correction: We have been made aware that the LittleBigPlanet team is distributing codes via a number of fansites (not just LittleBigPlanet Central). Community creators will also be among those selected to receive access.

The notice posted on LittleBigPlanet Central, but community manager Steven Isbell says via Twitter that was to "consolidate everything to one location." Other fansite members will be invited.

Original Story:

Today the LittleBigPlanet 3 fan community website LittleBigPlanet Central announced that a LittleBigPlanet 3 Private Beta is beginning next month. The website is also giving out a very small number of Beta access codes to its community members.

Codes will be distributed to LittleBigPlanet Central members via private messages sent to their lbpcentral accounts. The site is giving away only a few vouchers, as the space for the Beta is very limited.

LittleBigPlanet 3 was announced for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 at this year’s E3. The newest installment in the Sony exclusive platforming franchise will continue the tradition of emphasizing customization and content creation, but introduces new playable characters in addition to the series’ mascot, Sackboy.

LittleBigPlanet 3 is being developed by xDev and Sumo Studios and is scheduled to release this November. For more info on the platformer, check out the E3 trailer, or these screenshots.

Thanks to reader Shawn for the news tip!

Our Take
It’s exciting to see that LittleBigPlanet 3 is getting a beta, as that might mean its development is on-track. The small number of codes being given out shouldn’t be seen as a bad sign; I imagine it’s quite a lot of work to let even a small number of people into a game that isn’t finished yet, especially in a game that revolves around content creation and customization. Hopefully we’ll hear more about this Beta, and LBP 3 in general, soon.
