Project Spark Crafts Its Own Release Date

by Matt Miller on Jul 08, 2014 at 01:30 PM

While Project Spark continues its PC beta this summer, the flexible suite of game-creation software is headed towards an actual final launch on October 7 here in the Americas, with a release just a few days later in Asia and Europe. Project Spark will see a retail release on Xbox One, but will also be available digitally on both Xbox One and Windows 8.1.

The retail edition, entitled the Project Spark Starter Pack, will run $39.99, and includes several distinct creation and adventure elements, including a sci-fi pack of assets, a warrior champion named Sir Haakon “Hawk” the Knight, and the first episode of a campaign called Champions Quest.

Microsoft has also explained that players who have been enmeshed in the beta will see all of their creations carry over into the retail game.

Our Take
Project Spark remains something of a wild card to me, and I’m confident I’m not the only one. The game’s marketing has yet to convince me that the ease of creation is worth my time, and I’m concerned about how much crafted content I can expect if I pick the game up myself. Here’s hoping the folks enjoying the beta are putting out some compelling content that will be in place on day one to lure new purchasers into the experience.
