Master The Mushroom Kingdom With Mario Maker [Trailer Added]

by Jeff Cork on Jun 10, 2014 at 06:34 AM

Level 1-1 of Super Mario Bros. has been heralded as one of the greatest game levels of all time, teaching players the fundamentals of the game with nearly every one of Mario’s steps. Soon, budding designers will be able to see if they can do Nintendo one better, thanks to a Wii U game called Mario Maker.

The game was shown in a quick trailer featuring Mario running along the familiar level – familiar until he runs into an uncharacteristically tall piranha plant. At that point, the player zips into an edit mode, grabs the edge of the pipe and shrinks it to a more appropriate size. In a series of clips, we see players using the editor to add blocks and enemies.

Players will be able to swap between the game’s classic 8-bit presentation to something more akin to New Super Mario Bros.’ art style, too. There are a few nods to Mario Paint, too, including the fly (and its swatter), and the rounds of applause.
