HBO Go (And Many Others) Coming To Xbox One This Year

by Mike Futter on Jun 04, 2014 at 05:50 AM

Fear not, Game of Thrones, The Newsroom, and True Detective fans. HBO Go will be arriving on Xbox One this year.

Microsoft has announced more than 40 new apps that will be coming to Xbox platforms around the world. These include new Twitter integration (in the United States) that provides topical updates related to TV listings. Participating programs will be called out in the OneGuide’s “trending” section.

MLG.tv will be coming to Xbox One in the near future. The app has found success on Xbox 360, and will be expanding to Microsoft’s new-gen console with all of the company’s content.

Vine, the six-second video service, will also be getting an Xbox One presence (in case you want to watch short, looping videos on your television). If you’re looking for slightly longer entertainment, you’ll soon be able to access EPIX, Comedy Central, Crunchyroll, MTV, NBA, NHL, Syfy, USA, and Starz on your Xbox One.

Xbox 360 is getting some new apps, also. Watch ABC, FX Now, Showtime Anytime, and a number of Disney Channel apps are coming to that platform.

You can see the entire list at Xbox Wire. Microsoft also released the June update for Xbox One, which puts all of the media apps in front of the paywall so any console owner can use them.

Our Take
The standout for me on that list is HBO Go. With Syfy, USA, and Comedy Central also joining the party, the Xbox One becomes even more useful as an entertainment hub for cord-cutters and those that don’t want to thread their TV through the console.
