A new Quick Start Menu will now be available immediately upon start-up letting you begin recently played or newly installed software faster. Future system updates will also automatically download if your Wii U is in standby. You can check out the full suite of added features by checking out Nintendo's website here.

To update the Wii U manually, go into settings and the system update option is one of the last options on the row of icons along the bottom.

Our Take
The Wii U's start time has been getting faster with each update, which is something the system sorely needed. It took far too long to get the operating system up and running and to start games with previous versions. I'm excited about the Quick Start Menu, and definitely see myself using it the future.
