Watch Dogs ctOS Mobile App Available May 27

by Mike Futter on May 26, 2014 at 11:47 AM

For over a year, Ubisoft has been touting Watch Dogs’ second screen experience as a fun way to play even while away from home (you can read our impressions from Gamescom 2013). Tomorrow, you’ll get to try that for yourself, even if you don’t purchase the PC or console versions.

The ctOS Mobile app will be available for download on iOS and Android tablets, and you’ll be able to play on 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi. Two different modes (both adversarial) are available when using the mobile app.

After logging in with your Xbox Live, PSN, or uPlay account, you can challenge console and PC players to a race or free ride competition. Both are checkpoint-based affairs, with the console or PC player driving toward the finish line.

The mobile app player has police, helicopters, blocker pylons, and explosions to confound the driver (expanded through a discreet progression system). That adversary can be a friend or a random stranger.

Mobile players can also create custom races. Options include weather, time of day, distance between checkpoints, and amount of time available for the entire event.

Watch Dogs is out tomorrow for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. A Wii U version is due out later in 2014. Our Take
I really liked my time with the ctOS Mobile app last August. It’s a better mobile experience than some others that have come out of Ubisoft (like the Splinter Cell: Blacklist Spider Bot game). Give it a try, even if you aren’t getting Watch Dogs right away.
