FIFA 14 Gets World Cup Update Next Week

by Mike Futter on May 23, 2014 at 11:22 AM

With the World Cup right around the corner, EA is preparing to bring the excitement to FIFA 14 (our review). Don’t worry, new-gen players. You aren’t being left out this time.

The free update to FIFA Ultimate Team will be a separate World Cup mode within the broader Ultimate Team framework. Cards representing all 32 teams, their crests, the official Adidas ball, team kits, and the Estadio do Marcana stadium will be available on May 29. In addition, every pack of World Cup cards include a gold pack for use in the regular FIFA Ultimate Team mode.

Additionally, the new-gen versions of the game are getting a FIFA World Cup Kickoff mode. Xbox One and PS4 players will be getting all 32 teams, the stadium, and the official ball as a free update.

Our Take
It was disappointing to hear that new-gen players wouldn’t be able to purchase FIFA World Cup for their systems. This free update seems like a better deal for those customers who would otherwise have no way to play along on the new hardware.
