The Original Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Hits Amazon Fire TV

by Matt Helgeson on May 15, 2014 at 04:02 PM

Amazon's new Android console has landed Rockstar's classic PlayStation 2-era GTA trilogy.

The Amazon Fire TV, which is available now for $99, is quickly trying to expand its core gaming offerings. Alongside Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, other notable new Fire TV titles include The Walking Dead: Season 2. Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi, Minecraft: Pocket Edition, and Zombie Tycoon. Twitch TV has also released an app for Fire TV.

Our Take:
While I'm still questioning the Fire TV's decision to not come packed with a game controller, Amazon has enough muscle to get partnerships with major game companies. This is evidence of that. However, old games are fine - the system is going to need unique and exclusive games to truly compete in the market.
