Skylanders are everywhere. They are plastered on backpacks, thermoses, phone cases, pajamas, and bathroom accessories. It was only a matter of time until their stories were told in print. Starting this October, IDW Publishing and Activision are joining forces to bring Skylanders to comic books.

The first issue is a prequel story to Skylanders: Trap Team, penned by Ron Marz, with art from Mike Bowden and David Baldeon. According to IDW, we'll get our first look at a few new Skylanders in this story.

Prior to the release of this issue, IDW is bringing a special issue zero to San Diego Comic Con in July. Don't worry, you won't have to go to the show to read it, as a digital version will be available on the same day.

“The comic-book series will offer fans a glimpse into the backstories of their favorite Skylanders characters, expanding on the universe that they’ve embraced so enthusiastically in the franchise’s short history," says Ashley Maidy, Activision's vice president of global licensing and partnerships. "To explore the world of Skylands beyond the game is an opportunity we know our fans have long been awaiting, and we couldn’t be more excited to see this manifested through a comic series.”

Our Take
The only thing I can really say: I'm surprised it took this long. This property is primed to expand into other forms of entertainment. I'm guessing TV and movies could be next.
