Take-Two CEO: Rockstar Will Have Something On New-Gen Systems This Year
Take-Two’s year-end financial call just wrapped up, and it sounds like Rockstar is cooking something up for release. In and of itself, that isn’t surprising. What might raise your eyebrow is the timing: this fiscal year.
“Rockstar Games is hard at work on its upcoming lineup, and we’re excited about what they have in store for the new generation of systems this fiscal year,” said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. The publisher’s fiscal year ends on March 31, 2015, so whatever the mystery title (or titles) is, it could come as late as early next year.
Rockstar usually has an extended development cycle, and we’re interested to see what might be releasing on PS4 and/or Xbox One in the coming 10 months.
Our Take
If I were a betting man, I’d put money on this being a new-gen release of Grand Theft Auto V. Fans have been begging for it, but if it happens, it won’t be announced until sales of the original versions dip a bit. In short, you still might be waiting a while, because once the new-gen version is announced, sales of the PS3 and 360 editions will slow to a crawl.
