Earlier in the week, we reported on Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon’s cryptic countdown to June 2. Today is day 24 on the road to June 2 (when the countdown expires), and Boon is being pretty cagey about some news from earlier in the year.

After coyly pointing out that a tweet of his was favorited 24 times, he proceeded to call out a story we wrote on February 22. The piece in question? Kiefer Sutherland was quoted as confirming involvement in a new Mortal Kombat game.

With today being day 24 in the countdown, we aren’t quite sure if Boon is seriously questioning the Sutherland quote or making a sly link to the actor’s starring role as Jack Bauer in Fox’s television series, 24. And, unsurprisingly, Boon won’t give us any further clarification.

What do you think? Is Ed Boon cleverly linking our Mortal Kombat from February 22 about Kiefer Sutherland to today’s spot in the countdown? Or is he really denying the actor’s involvement?

Either way, we’re getting more interested in June 2’s announcement. Especially since it could be something entirely different…

Our Take
At this point, I’d be happy with a new entry in either the Mortal Kombat or Injustice series. Countdowns tend to be lame, but this one is a lot of fun.
