Epic Unveils New Unreal Tournament Via Livestream

by Kimberley Wallace on May 08, 2014 at 08:16 AM

Today Epic Games held a Twitch livestream to reveal its future plans for Unreal Tournament.

Development on the game started today and Epic Games wanted fans to be involved in the process to provide feedback. The stream featured Epic Games, Unreal Tournament fans, and Unreal Engine 4 developers all working together to make Unreal Tournament, which will be a free game. Note: Epic is saying it won't be free-to-play, just free.

Of course, it till take many months before the game is complete, but Epic is giving everyone the chance to be there right from the beginning.

For more on how you can be involved in the process, check out the Unreal Tournament blog.

Our Take
This is a cool way to bring fans a new Unreal Tournament game. Not often do develops let fans be right there with them when a game is being made. It's exciting enough that Epic is showing this all off during a livestream, but adding fan input during the game's inception is a smart move. Also, making the game free is just another thank you to the fans. I like how open Epic is being about the process.
