For only $19 a month, upstart game developers can have access to Epic's powerful Unreal Engine 4 technology. Today, Epic just added support for console platforms to the program.
Epic generated huge headlines following its announcement during Game Developer's Conference. The program allows aspiring game creators to get full access to the Unreal Engine 4 toolset for only $19, as well as 5 percent of the gross revenues from any possible sales of the finished game. However, prior to today's update, the subscription only supported PC development.
The recently pushed update changes this, adding support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It also adds some other improvements like support for SteamOS and Linux, and improvements to its mobile functionality and community features.

Our Take:
It's still amazing to me that Unreal Engine, which powered many of this past generation's most acclaimed and impressive games, is now out there and this affordable for anyone to use. I have a feeling like the next few years are going to be a new age of "garage games" with triple-A production values.
