Trendy Entertainment, the studio behind Dungeon Defenders and its upcoming sequel, has a new CEO. Darrell Rodriguez, former president of LucasArts, is taking on the role.

"I have been extremely fortunate to work with some of the most talented and passionate people across various creative industries and at some of the most renowned companies in the world," Rodriguez told GamesIndustry Intertnational. "I am equally impressed and blessed to work with the passion and skill that exist at Trendy."

In addition to developing the studio's Dungeon Defenders games, Trendy has its own cross-platform matchmaking and streaming-content tech, Playverse. Rodriguez says he sees great potential there, adding that the company will also be developing additional IP.

Rodriguez served as LucasArts president from 2008 to 2010, and oversaw game launches including Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition. For more details on Rodriguez's tenure at LucasArts, read our extensive feature on the company's final years.

Our Take
Trendy has high hopes for its Playverse service, which it plans on launching later this year. Bringing Rodriguez on board now makes sense; he can handle the increasingly complicated business-related tasks, allowing the rest of the company's staff more time to focus on game and Playverse development.
