Last Life Kickstarter Gets Double Fine Stamp Of Approval

by Cameron Koch on Apr 11, 2014 at 09:42 AM

Kickstarter is full of various video game projects seeking funding, but few of them get the endorsement of Tim Schafer himself.

That lucky game would be Last Life, and is among the first to be part of the "Double Fine Presents" program. Why the game caught the eye of Schafer and Double Fine's eye is no surprise – Last Life is a combination of science fiction and classic crime noir, all wrapped up in a stylish point-and-click adventure game package.

Developer Sam Farmer says he is drawing inspiration from titles like Kentucky Route Zero and Telltale's The Walking Dead for the project. Set on Mars after the destruction of Earth, players control Jack Parker, a private eye who until recently was dead. When he is 3D printed back into existence he must find his murderer, and by doing so unveil a conspiracy that may have led to Earth's demise.

The plan is for the game to come in three episodes, with the Kickstarter's fundraising goal of $75,000 going towards the delivery of episode one for PC, Mac, and Linux. If you trust the word of Tim Schafer (and why wouldn't you) be sure to check out the game's Kickstarter page

Our Take:
It's great to see this adventure game resurgence as of late, largely thanks to Kickstarter. If there is one thing Tim Schafer knows, it's adventure games, so if you are a fan of the genre you might want to give Last Life a look.
