Dementium: The Ward Developer Returns To Survival Horror With Cult County

by Cameron Koch on Apr 10, 2014 at 06:47 AM

Renegade Kid, the developers behind Dementium: The Ward on Nintendo DS and Moon Chronicles on 3DS, are seeking funding for a new survival horror title via Kickstarter.

Titled Cult County, players will take on the role of Gavin Mellick. Following his mother's death, Gavin is unable to reach his older sister by phone to inform her of the sad news. He hops in his car and drives across Texas to find his sister in the small town where he once lived, just as a massive duststorm rolls in. Rumors swirl about in town of a mysterious cult, and strange figures can be seen just on the outskirts of the storm.

You can check out four minutes of the game in action below. As always with a Kickstarter project, keep in mind that the game is currently in an early stage of development.

Renegade Kid is drawing inspiration for Cult County from episodic story-centered games like The Walking Dead, as well as classic survival-horror titles like Silent and Resident Evil. The gameplay is a mix of first-person combat with melee weapons and firearms, as well as moments of quiet tension and exploration.

Be sure to check out the project's Kickstarter page for more information, including the numerous perks should you become a backer.

Our Take:
From the gameplay footage, Cult County looks to have a great, creepy atmosphere as well as a setting not usually seen in survival horror. Color me intrigued.
