Blizzard has announced that Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, the first expansion to the 2013 title, has sold over 2.7 million copies to consumers in its first week. Since the March 25 release, players have completed the story portion of the expansion 1.5 million times.

In addition to adding a fifth act to Diablo III, Reaper of Souls adds new end-game content in the form of an adventure mode and bounties. Reaper of Souls completes an overhaul to Diablo III that began with the termination of the in-game auction houses and the release of a “Loot 2.0” patch that drastically changes gear drops and stat displays.

Our Take
When Diablo III first came out, I made it to Act II and my interest petered out. I cannot overstate the importance of the Loot 2.0 patch. If you walked away, it’s time to give it another try.

I’m loving Reaper of Souls so far (I should be finished in the next couple of days), and I can’t wait to try out some of the end-game content. Blizzard stumbled with the original release of Diablo III and has since redeemed itself.
